Somewhere I saw someone had the ABS light on, and it was fixed through the computer. Does anyone know anything about the Air Bag Light staying on? I have my son in the front seat so I turned off the air bag for the passenger side when I bought the truck 3 years ago. It's a 99 f-150 xlt x cab. This summer the light on the dash came on for air bag and the light to say "off" on the switch went out. The mechanic said not to worry, it will never deploy when the light is on in the panel, which is fine since I don't want it to go off ever. Just thought I would ask and see if anyone had the same issue and had it fixed. I would love to have my truck up to par so to speak, but I can't see investing yet another $1200 or more to fix everything. If I could take all the times I have paid at or above $1200 to fix it, I would have paid my truck off by now!!!
If you say that the light on the switch is out then that is what the problem is. I think , don't quote me on this, but the code for that would be a 7-2 sequence on the air bag light on the dash. You will know the code by counting the times it flashes when you turn the key. It will flash 7 times and then 2 times. If that is the problem which I think it is, you have to buy the whole switch. Unless they started selling just the light bulb.
Again with the code... I think that is the code. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
For the PAD( passenger airbag deactivation) switch there are two codes.
25 means switch module is bad
27 means lamp inside the module is bad
Turn your ignition key to the "ON" position no start.
Watch the lamp in the dash cluster. When the key is switched on the airbag module does a self test. If one or more of the componets are at fault it will display a code by flashing the light 2, short pause 7, long pause, then repeats the code a couple time and then stay lit. Read the code and let us know what it is. If it stay on solid from the start let us know that.
These modules are easily repairable. There is only the led lamp(s and a few resistors in the switch. Any electronic supply like radio shack or active electronics sells these parts. I doubt that the contacts are bad in the switch, so it's more then likely the led went or the fusable resistor. The parts are no more then a couple of dollars.
Oh, and I did look at the light on the cluster panel, I think that's what you called it. It flashes twice, then 7 times and it does this a total of 5 times, then stays on all the time. It did the same when I started it.
