'99 F350SD A/T 7.3; Truck has been running fine. Shut truck off and go back to start and get nothing. Dash lights come on fine. Turn key to start and the starter does not engage. Oil level is full, no codes in my SuperChip 1705 Scanner. Waited a few minutes and truck started fine. Shut truck off and I'm back to no start again.
I always use process of elimination.if you checked the bacics ,clean battery connections, fully charged batteries, then I go to the starter relay in the engine compartment and test,or bypass, and work my way through each componant in starting circuit until you find the failing part.you may have to do a search for each test you are not familiar with.hope that helps.
It could be simple things such as a fuse for the ignition, starter, PATS key, etc. Not likely, but it could be your transmission position range sensor doesn't think it's in Park or Neutral (had that happen on my F350).
So when you say it won't engage, you're saying no clicking, no cranking, etc? You just turn the key and it's absolutely nothing...no sounds or anything?
If it's cranking, it could be your CPS (Cam Position Sensor). It's a $15 part that takes 10-20 minutes to replace with a flathead screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench.
Looks like winner is the starter relay on the fender. Able to jump the post and it starts every time. Thanks for the help, again!.
Local shop wants to sell me a four post solenoid, mine has only three. Do I need to keep shopping?
