It's coming up on my first PMS anniversary... what a ride. Initially, my best "real" economy was 17.5 MPG and I was dancing a jig when my trip meter reached 400 miles at about 1/4 of a tank. I'm always honest with myself about MPG... making sure I hand calculate and check the gauge when the truck is level for enough time for the gauge to settle. I started with nothing more than stock, a bunch of exhaust leaks, and an AIS intake... now my signature looks like a catalog Tim Allen would have on his coffee table.
It's your fault. You guys taunted me with, and guided me through improvements I could do to my truck -, instead of hacneyed approaches I would have otherwise attempted without the Brotherhood. I saved a whole bunch of ammo for my Buck$Zooka and a lot of time. I wish I could buy you all pizza and your favorite beverage. Every step gave me just a little more power, reliability, economy, or any combination thereof. My last mod will be the stage 1 injectors, tunes with the single-shot stick strategy, and a T38R turbo for a tempest with a twist. I have one more mod to do before then - to protect the new sticks.
Until then, I can revel in my latest accomplishment - the Hutch/Harpoon/external fuel filter mod. It took a bit of driving in crazy-hot heat with A/C on my daily drive to work and multiple errands in town, but I finally got that silly gauge to 1/4 tank after my last fill.
Rick that is one clean little Ranger. About 3yrs ago I sold my old Turbo Coupe and I had always wanted to transplant my 2.3turbo into a Ranger but instead I got Blackie. And my old Turbo Coupe would get 24mpg and turned a 14.0 in the 1/4 mile. Have you ever thought of a transplant??
I wish I would have bought a Ranger first and put the Turbo Coupe drivetrain in it. I had a ton of $$ in that Turbo Chicken. It would have been a cool daily driver. Instead I drive a Saturn SC1 which is the most "UnCool" car I have ever owed. By the way I did NOT buy it! It was my wifes car before we got married.
So Rob I wish you luck with the Ranger. Let us know how it goes. And with everything I have said I myself wouldn't get the v6 since it kinda pig. Not that great on mpg, you'll pay more for a v6 and the v6 is not that much more power.
Nice job on the MPG, I know you have been questing toward better MPG. After reading tons of threads on here and looking at signatures I really think the HPOP has a lot to do with mileage...and one of these days I am going to test that theory.
Now I have to participate in this hijack.
I had a 96 Ranger, 2.3 5-speed fleet model. I dropped a 2.3 Turbo in it from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and had a blast. I was getting about 230 hp and 26 mpg. It was a fun truck and I still kick myself for selling it. I might just have to build a new one.

I had 3 Turbo Coupes an '86 and 2 '88s. The 86 I stripped down and ran at the track a few times, 15.4 (6000 ft elevation) not bad for the older Tcoupe. The one 88 was a donor car (wreck) and the other 88 I drove for a couple years, black with red interior (Ford loved their red interiors), I miss that car too.
