I was thinkin of putting a do it yourself bedliner on my whole truck. it's just an old farm truck thats starting to rust out. I was wondering what some of the best kinds cheapest for the best quality and where you can get them. also another question. I'm terrible at body work and anything I bondo eventually cracks and looks like *****. anyways I was wondering if I used bondo on some dents in the truck and then rhino lined it or w/e. would the liner be tuff enough to keep the bondo from cracking it? whats your opinion?
Well...I did this same thing last summer to my dad's '78 F250. If you are going to use a kit, they are expensive (around $90) and they are tricky to use. You must follow the instructions to the letter in order for it to cure properly. I used Herculiner over Bondo with no problems, now if your Bondo cracks, well, I would say get some practice or something. It was the first time I ever used bondo and I never experienced cracking. The liquid bedliners do not stick to rust either. Now, you said you wanted to apply it to the whole truck? Well, thats a bit much ($$$).
Every bit of rust had to be sanded or drilled out and then primed with SEVERAL coats of primer, at least thats how I did it. I had a little peal off though. I will add, if I had to do it again, I would have a professional do it. I put a lot of time into that truck, I stripped the whole bed down to bare steel and used Herculiner.
Good luck.
