well ill start by saying this, i bought my truck the week after Christmas in 2004 as a new left over. 18 DAYS later some scum bag either backed into or pulled into the passenger side bed right behind the tire and crushed the bed side into the leaf spring almost. Since the truck was so new my insurance had the bed side completely replaced and i was good to go. now eight years later Ive been hearing this popping sound going into driveways, etc turns out the bed side broke off the front bulk head from the bed cap half way now the front side. Brought it to the body shop that did the repair 8 years ago and they said no problem drop it off this Monday and we'll re-weld it for you. Then i get a call today with BAD news, turns out the body guy who did the new skin glued the entire bed side on instead of welding it in. PLUS he didn't acid wash the wheel well or something and the entire wheel well is rotted behind the panel from the guy "not doing the job correctly". So now they are gonna replace the entire bed side and inner wheel well BUT FIRST they are sending the boss's son to my house to look at my truck to see "how clean" it is to see if the warranty will be covered 100%. They told me since the owner likes my truck and it looked clean last week they wanted to see how clean it was to see if anything else was rotted out or not. I suppose the only good thing so far is I DO keep the truck so freaking clean I'm gonna get the entire side redone under warranty.
I would just pocket the money and find a takeoff bed.
Won't that get expensive to have painted ( if he cant fins the exact color). I gues it would be worth a shot though. I think a bed is around $500 if he's lucky (not counting a paint match job).
He's lucky he has a body shop that is standing behind their work and fixing it. When I bought my truck I had some work done at a body shop. Now 3 years later I have some paint peeling from their work. I took my truck back and they won't warrenty it. They want another $500.

You have a custom paint job? I see 100's of beds in factory Technicolor around here. BUT, they ain't cheap. They run $1200+ depending on paint and model. But, I'd rather have an OEM than a repaired bed.
If it's done by a quality shop, you'd never know the difference. Replacing bedsides or any other body panel is quite common and completely undetectable in any way if done correctly. That's why it pays to find the right shop and discuss the job BEFORE the work starts. Do some research on both the type of repairs your vehicle needs and methods of repair and spend a little time with the shop manager and if there's any question or concerns, get it in writing so there's no question later on if it goes bad. For some reason, people have this idea that once their car is damaged, it's never be right again. Not true. Quality shops turn out quality work, but it's your responsibility to find the right shop for you and your truck because they are NOT all the same.
first i ain't whining about the bed side needing to be replaced, second my other post about how f$cking cheap Ford designed the bed supports is true. And second my bed side is not rotted out, the body shop that fixed it when some guy backed into my truck when it was 18 days old had welds pop off so it needed to be repaired by them for free. When they went to repair the broken welds they called and told me that the repair they did was rotting inside the panel, the owner told me that the painter didn't prep the panel correctly and that they are taking full responsibility for THEIR mistake. My post was nothing more then as soon as you get to fix one thing another thing happens! You all need to calm the hell down because i wasn't saying anything about Ford nor their engineers in THIS post. And I'm young? I didn't realize that a 19 year old kid had the money to buy his own brand new 2004 F350 and pay it off in three years, and yes now at 28 I'm gonna bitch about the cheap bed supports that rot out when there are hundreds of other trucks, GM and dodges i see every day that don't get washed or anything and they are spotless underneath
and who the hell are are you? Ive been on this site since 2008 helping guys with problems, never once did i ever read through a post and see you ever on here posting about how to help someone, what are you one of them leaches that lurks on post's until you think of something smart to say about someone!

Sand Man thats why i went to this body shop, they've been in business for over 60 years and Ive seen work they've done on other trucks. (top quality) From the outside you cant see anything bubbling or chipping, i was told that when they removed the front of the panel to fix the spot welds that the OEM panel was all rotted out between the two pieces. He said if they left it this way within a year it would rot to the outside. The owner knows my truck and after his worker came to my house to check the rest of my truck he said there is not doubt it was lack of prep by the painter and it's going to be completely cover by them. I said thank you and if i ever talk to someone who needs body work I'm bringing them to them only.
