alright, i have a 77 f100 lwb 2wd that i got for my 16th birthday a little over a year ago, i have been looking into swapping it to a 4x4, i think i've found the perfect investment, but im not sure if it's doable, the body and everything else is in great shape so i was wondering if everything on my truck will switch over, cab, bed, front clip, brake lines etc., please any advice will be very much appreciated!! i know ill need a transfercase and new tranny and all that to make the 4x4 work but i can worry about that later if im able to switch everything overr
Front doghouse, cab, and bed will swap, LB to LB. Gonna have to cut the trans hump for the T-case stick and maybe trim the left inner fender for the PS box.
Mechanical differences that you'll have to address include brake lines, tie rods, draglink, intermediate steering shaft, steering box type and location, xfer case crossmember, exhaust system, driveshafts, engine perches, and parking brake cables.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Hmmm alrightt, how major of work are we talking? like tons of fab work? or simple stuff?
Personally, I'd say relatively simple. About the only fab work that I can foresee is the crossmember and exhaust system.
I think the most challenging aspect of yer project is getting it to steer. If this is the route your're taking, then ask the owner for all the info he can provide on the axles and what parts sources/donors he was thinking of as if the project were actually completed.
Btw, the front leaf springs should have swing shackles at its rear mounts. It appears to be a rigid mount.... and the front shock mounts needs some gussets rather than being an L-plate.
Look closely at the frontend. ITs a coilsprung 44 that someone welded spring perches on. Dead give away is that the c wedges are still there and the drivers side perch isnt cast into the center section.
Sorry here is the link for the frame i was talking about 1976 Ford
Oww! My eyes hurt! I'm not much into 4WD but even I can tell that frame is a hacked up mess.....Click "avoid".
Just a note, if you do go through a frame swap, be sure to get a good title to go with the frame. In most states the VIN number on the frame is the one needed for title purposes. The warranty plate on the door doesn't have any legal standing, doors are too easy to change and aren't considered a "permanent" part of the vehicle.
Thanks for all the input guys!! i guess im going to look out for a complete junker, that way i dont have to worry about much else but swapping over the body, thanks again
