Iam in the process of tracing wires in this truck (1975,see gallery) 360? The distributor has points and not electronic.
By the Haynes manual I have, electronic was after late 1974. It has a voltage regulator and no module like what is pictured.
How do I tell what motor is in this truck? (yr/302,360,460,etc.)
Iam still looking for pics of 1975 wiring under the hood? Some wires need replacing due to heat damage and age. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
John
I have the *D4TE* block in my 1975 -the casting number on mine is upside down above the oil filter adaptor !
Casting numbers on FE's can't tell you much , only the year it was cast-lots of FE's used the same casting number for different engines.
I have pictures but they are too big to put on this site sorry --
That is a FE by the way -it looks like the dura-spark coil too I bet someone just put the points in because they couldnt get the dura spark to work correctly.
Chas are you saying the coil is correct but the distributor is not?
I would assume that the points dist would fit both. If thats the case I need to find the details for setting the points etc. I really dont want to mess with it too much, besides an oil leak the thing runs great.

What I am saying is that the picture of the coil in your gallery has the dura-spark horseshoe connector on it . If you truck is a 1975 it would have duraspark on it from the factory!
If the points run well on it then keep them ! _ I run them on my '74's 240 and I dont have any problems with them -lots of power and it idles fine!
I say dont bother spending the money for unnecessary parts if the truck runs great!
If you are looking to do a restoration of the truck then you are going to get all the dura-spark stuff to make it work!
Try doing a search for "dura-spark conversion" - and see what you come up with here on this site!
Good luck!
