Has anyone had this problem with thier 2011 F350 6.7?
Purchased job 1 back in september 2010 only 23,500 miles on it. till then it has been great till this past Sunday....
The truck cranked but woulden't start I tried a couple times at a quick stop store, I had the wife we me and I looked at here and said oh no we have a problem.
As I popped the hoodand getting out a guy parked next to me with his wife an child offered to jump start us.
Well after I got out looking under the hood with him checking the batteries one green for glow plugs driver side and orange for the other side.
I said sure that would be great. How embarrassing.
Luckily I had jumper cables with me thinking I could help someone out if I ever needed too.Well egg on my face now....
Well.
My questions are ...1st one is stupid but I didn't dare to try it!
1. Can I jump start from the secondary battery? I was concerned about shorting things out.
2. Has anyone had their battery replaced under warrantee? Maybe defective!
Seems these batteries would last longer then 2 years..

The battery on the passenger side is considered the primary and the one you should jump from. No replacement batteries for me, but it is possible you have a bad battery. Although the charging algorithms have smartened up over the years, the batteries if I am not mistaken are still lead filled sealed batteries.
1. Bad batteries happen.
2. They can go bad if not used much.
3. Warranty should not be an issue with you bumper to bumper
4. Need to take it in and find out if the batt was bad or if the truck has a problem charging.

My batteries are not sealed. I've already had the caps off twice to check the electrolyte level and add distilled water if needed. And yes, some of the cells were low. But, I live in a hot and very dry area.
Twice I have walked out to a dead truck......Twice I have had a battery replaced under warranty. Purchased my 350 June of 2011. That issue and the "chunking" tires are the only problems I've had. 23,000 miles so far. Love the truck
I'll bring it in and have it check out specialy the alternator. But I did put it into the service mode and looks like its charging 14.2 volts when running. Who knows, I'll have them check it out tobe on the safe side.
Mauader92v,
So you don't think you can jump the Primary with the secondary?
It takes BOTH batteries to start a powerstroke diesel engine. You can't jump the primary from the secondary. You need the combined voltage to run the glow plugs and crank the diesel over fast enough to get the compression needed to fire the fuel.
I'm on my 4th Superduty and my wifes Topaz and my daughters Explorer all needed batteries replaced at 36 months. I just come to expect a bill for replacing OEM batteries at 3 years of age.

Well, here is my "Stuid" question...
What is "Service Mode"???
How to enter Service Mode???
My truck has been going through batteries every two years since it rolled off the assembly line in '99....almost like clockwork. They get replaced the first time under warranty and pro-rated the next time. Then the warranty starts all over again. I could never figure out a cause nor could the dealer so I have just come to accept it and move on. I keep a little cheap voltage meter in the cigarette lighter outlet and it lets me know when the batteries are weak so I can avoid needing a jump start. Dealer insists that my truck requires 750 amp batteries but I am not so sure...
My other two trucks are model year 2000 and they both have 800 amp batteries from Costco. We got over five years on the first set and almost three years on the current sets. I decided to give up on the OEM Motorcraft units in favor of the Interstate/Costco units simply because they are higher amps and have performed well in my other trucks. Looks like both brands are made by Johnson Controls but for whatever reason the Motorcraft units don't last as long in my truck.
Thank you Painted Horse that answers that question...
So, I guess I did it right having another vehicle jump start the dead primary battery. I had a feeling not to try it.
I knew you guys could answer this, it was just bugging me afterwards.
