body sill rust
...Ok..not sure I'm naming this correctly, but in my 01, I have noticed that the bottom side of the sill area is starting to show rust bubbles...some of them, I can put my finger right thru. I have heard of guys cutting out the sill area and leaving it wide open undeneath, so nothing gets trapped up inside there, which looks to be the problem!! I did that on one side but only about 8 inches long..seemed to work....anyone else have any success? Maybe with por15??

I have a Crew cab and that area extends under both doors, over 5 ft long. I used a 4 inch cut off wheel in an air gridner and cut 1/4 inch below the door lip from the front fender to the bed. I then cut at the edge of the truck frame front to back. You end up taking out a piece about 3 inches wide and 5 ft long. Now you can needel gun, wire brush, porock, paint wiht rustoleum, etc the entire inside area, frame, floor braces and bottom of cab. The sill is relatively stable, but dont put your weight on it right now. After cleaning real good i cut 4 pieces of 14 gauge steel 2.5 inches by 3 inches and welded back across the gap, one every 16-18 inches as good bracing. Now everything is solid and stable. Then i did the porock and paint. You cant even see the piece that is missing from the side view due to the angle and the way it tucks under the truck. I had the running boards off and redid the board braces and backer plate at the same time.
