Sounds like ZF5 is the way to go. Seams the s42 and s47 very only in there torque ratings. Anyone actually broke a s42 where an s47 might have lived?
I've never heard of it but I would imagine someone has managed to BREAK one but usually something like a u-joint will snap first, but they will wear out eventually. What are their TQ ratings? The 460 only ever put out about 400 ft/lbs.
For the money you'd spend on a GV unit, you could get a built and upgraded E4OD and then you'd get a lockup torque converter too. You only get 4 gears but combined with a set of 4:10 gears most people would be happy enough.

Get this the s42 is rated at 420ftlbs and the s47 at 470ftlbs. almost makes sence.
FWIW I'd go thru the hassle of a zf6 long before spending that kinda money on a gear venders overdrive.
Also ya know of course 460 and c6, it's also 4.10 gears and 37" tires.
I doubt you could adapt it to a 460 but if you had a powerstroke you could make it happen.
I've read that the trans tunnel would have to be modified to fit over it though. It would be cool to have one in an OBS behind a PSD.
I saw a thread over on pirate4x4 in the towing section about a guy stuffing an MDT trans in his second gen cummins. I think it was like a 13 speed road ranger or some such. Pretty cool stuff but I think if you need that much you should just get away from pickups altogether and get an MDT.
