460 overdrive trans

Howdy. Looking for some info on maybe converting my 79 F150 460/c6/np205 to an overdrive trans. Can I still keep my 205 x-case? I am currently running 4:11 gears and would like to go to possibly 4:56 with an overdrive swap. Im can easily get ahold of a 4R100 or E4OD through work or one of our customers. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

thanks

someone was talking about the bolt on units that are installed
behind the transmission in here once, check the history maybe.

the only thing i cam think of is if you went to a divorced
tcase setup: 460>C6>OD unit>NP205 the length of the OD unit might
not allow you to use an intermediate shaft between the OD
and the tcase tho.. *shrug* this might be a cheap option,
really, if you didnt mind a little adaptation and hunting
around for parts..

if that kind of cloud talk doesnt suit yer fancy, then get
out your wallet and buy a beefed up AOD 4x4 model tranny, bolt
your NP205 to it, and find an adapter plate kit so it
fits the 460.

My truck: 300 six>AOD>NP205 (divorced). Mine has the 4.10
gearing and works quite well. the overdrive is .67 with a
lockup tourque convertor. I find the highway limit is only
50mph or less in third gear, (1:1, no lockup tc) but with
overdrive, I can run 75mph without the six screaming at me
stop beatin the valvetrain.. heheh

i dont often drive 75mph in my 5,500 lb 4x4, but its fun
knowing i can.. :-)
