Alright guys i just replaced my fuel pump on my 1977 f250 with a manual 400 in it and i drove it a while and it worked fine then the problems started. At first it would sputter and die on me going down the road and its progressivly gotten worse to the point of now it wont start due to having no fuel (i have a clear filter right before the carb that is definetly empty), so my question is what can i do to fix this problem? Ive heard of putting an electronic pump in line but how does that work with the rest of the system and where can i get one
There is a strainer on the fuel pickup that could be clogged. Also check the flexible lines. These get hard and crack allowing the pump to suck air and lose it's prime. There should be three, one at the tank, one mid-way along the frame and the one that hooks the line to the fuel pump.
Another possibility is the short segments of rubber fuel line at joints. With time and alcohol they can break down and get so soft the pump sucks them shut. I had this problem... replaced the rubber fuel lines and all was well.
As usual you guys are correct i pulled the line apart and put it in a gas can and she runs great so now i just gotta drop the freshly filled tank :/ and put a better screen on my line and ill be good to go thank you very much
