Help with ABS problem-diagnosis needed
Oddly, when the sensors get weak they often give a reliable signal at higher speeds, and start to drop the signal as speed decreases. The ABS module, as discussed before, simply interprets this lack of signal as the wheel being locked up and performs its routine to get it rolling again. The module isn't "smart" enough to think any deeper than this. If it sees a signal at least some of the time and the self test passed, it figures everything is good, like aquanaut said.
Personally, I would pull the fuse or relay over disconnecting the sensor, which could let water and debris into the connectors and lead to problems later.
