Have a problem with my brakes that I can't figure out where the problem might be. Here's the symptons:
City driving at speeds around 35-40. During hard braking, sometimes the brake pedal feels like crushing an aluminum coke can. Requires more pedal pressure than normal for this type of stop. Doesn't do it every time, only maybe once a month. Corrects itself immediately, so its fine on the next stop.
Could this be associated with the ABS? Master cylinder? Power booster? Any help or similar experiences appriciated. Thanks in advance.
It sounds similar to the problem my dad had with his 94 ex. Air was caught in the brake line it took him forever to figure it out. He took out all the brake fluid and drained it until it was all out. Then carefully filled it back up. It took along time but it has been 2 years and it hasnt happend again. I dont know if that helps but its worth a try.
Thanks! Air in the line might be it. In addition to the crunchy pedal feel, it does seem like the pedal goes down further when the problem occurs. Why it only does it some of the time, and not always puzzles me?
I did have the brake lines flushed with new fluid after I redid the brakes. But that was when I purchased the car about a year ago, and it seemed fine then.
