I just bought my 75 4x4, and the dude said it was all stock with a 390. I checked the vin# and the Y in the code tells me that it came with a 360 2 barrel. Well the engine in it has a 4 barrel. So it may be a 390. Can someone tell me where to look on the block to find out what it really is.
There is no code or any other way to tell a 360 from a 390 by looking at it.
You'll have to measure the stroke that's the only way.
Put the engine on TDC, pull #1 spark plug and stick a small dowel or something similar in the cylinder untill it bottoms out. mark the dowel. Now turn the engine exactly 180 degrees (half a turn) stick the dowel in again and bottom it out and mark it. The difference in the measurement is the stroke. 3 1/2" = 360. 3 3/4" (3.784" actually)= 390
Right on, I'll give that a shot. See what I come up with. It's a darn shame they didn't give it some kind og stamped indication on the block.
Thanks for the info.
