trans temp guage question

trans temp guage question
i just installed an electric trans temp guage on my truck. i put the sending unit in the test port. when i start my truck even in the morning the guage reads a little over 100 before i have even moved anywere. does this mean the guage could be faulty or does anyone have any ideas? as i drive the truck the temp increases as it should but do you think the reading is off being that it is reading higher than 100 befor the truck has even moved in the morning?

Here is one way to field test a gage and sender, remove the sender from the transmission but leave it hooked up, boil a big pot of water, after water is at a good rolling boil, carry it out to the truck and put the sender in it, observe gage, it should read between 210 and 212 degrees ( the water may cool off a couple of degrees). This is near where your temp will run at so this is where you want to make sure the gage is accurate.

You can even use a thermometer in your garage to compare it to prior to doing the boiling test so you have a comparative reading. I have used a meat thermometer before as it will read room temp as well as the boiling temps.
