frame cut.

I have two trucks. one 73 and one 75. the 73 is short bed and 75 long. the 73 frame is rusted real bad. no saving it. the 75 is great. I want to keep the sort bed. where do I cut the frame on the 75 to shorten it?

well you are going to have to cut it somewhere in the middle so you can slide the front and back together. Where exactly depends on the measurements you take form the short bed and apply to the long bed.
Make sure you reinforce the weld points with steel welded onto both sides of the join line. There is quite a bit of info on the web about this so you may want to spend some time searching.

Like poison oil said, you better be precise with your cuts. You will be a sad sad dude if you cut too much. Make sure you take it slow. Remember you can always take more off, but it's a pain in the *** to add back on. Good luck buddy.

Perform the 16-inch Z-cut on the flattest section of the frame aft of the cab mounts. Measure twice, cut once.

Overlap the Z'd sections and weld both sides of the frame. A 220V welder is a must for penetration.

Weld in fishplates with rounded corners on both sides of the frame... rounded corners spread the stress whereas a welded point concentrates the stress at that point.

Yea I get what you are saying about the Z cuts and fish plates, rounded corners and all. I do not want any kind of stress risers showing up at any weld points. My main consern is location of cuts.

I thank you guys for your input.

I do have a lincoln Pro Mig 180 and a tombstone for stick. I will use the 180 with hard wire set up. The welds look nicer then an innershield.
