So i got my truck running today and adjusted the timing, shut it down and started it back up after it was hot to see if the dist was right and everything seemed good, so i started it and drove it up and down the road, get back shut it off and go to start it back up just to make sure, and it won't start, its skipping on ignition as if the timing is wrong, but no matter where i twist the dist. it wont start back up like the timing is outta whack....ummm advice??
Try pulling the brown wire off your ignition solenoid (if it's mounted on the fender apron). When this wire sees voltage your Duraspark module crudely retards the ignition timing for easier starting.
Is it possible that your timing chain jumped or may be a tooth or 2 broke off the gear (nylon)??
I highly doubt it, i mean everything has been smooth up until this, and i think if it was that it woulda made it act wierd when it jumped while i was driving, not show up after i shut it off ya know? idkk though

More often than not a timing gear will jump a tooth when the engine is shut down.
The crankshaft wants to keep turning due to reciprocating mass, the camshaft wants to stop turning because of resistance from the valve springs......so the cam stops, the crank keeps turning, and the loose chain lets it jump a tooth.

pull the cap, give a GENTLE twist on the rotor left and right. it should be firm the one direction and have 10-15 dgrees of spring loaded give in the other direction.
Or, it just spins free like a loose hand on a clock.
(Like mine did last week)
Just an idea.
Mine broke like that last Friday.
Reman OEM style was about 50 bucks exchange at local parts store.

nope, it isn't broke. wont spin the one way and moves a bit the other way,any other ideas?
What do you mean it's "skipping on ignition?" You need to start over and do the basic troubleshooting: fuel, air, spark, compression. You're immediately assuming your distributor jumped a tooth or you lost the chain and going down that path when you don't even know if that's the case yet. You need to eliminate the basics and figure out which one of the 4 things you don't have first.
ok, i just chekced and the metal on the rotor isnt pointing up under the number one wire, do i need to switch the wires around to where the 1 is above the point??
