We have a 2002 f350 4x4 with 90000 miles. We just got it and it is a repairable. We just changed oil in the transmission and changed the filter in the pan. Before the oil change the transmission didn't seem to have any problems but now it seems to be acting up in reverse but forward is fine. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

I cant help you really, but this is something im interested in. Been talking to shops about how much they would charge, and pricing what I can do it for. But all three shops asked when it was done last since I have 215k. Well I dont know the answere to that because this is a kind of new truck to me. They all stated the same thing, that if its never been changed, or a long time ago changed, the transmission fluid if in for a long time puts some kind of coating on the parts. With that being said, they stated if I flushed it, and started with fresh fluid, and some parts were coated, then this could flake off. With that theres a chance to mess up the trans. If it was from one shop, I would have been like ok, then took it to another. But for three different shops to say the same thing got me thinking about mine.
I purchased my truck with 120,000 miles. Soon after I had the fluid changed, and have not had any problems.
I have pulled my 5th wheel camper, out to the Rockies 3 times. So far, no tranny problems.
I have almost 180,000 miles now.
But, I have heard that same story, that you were given several times.
If you are having a greater delay going into reverse I had the same problem a few months ago after doing my fluid and filter. I ended up replacing the springs and valves(changed to steel) in the accumulator valve body and the problem was solved, reverse seems to be better/quicker than before. Found the spring that controls 3rd and reverse was very weak so it needed changing. I think my tranny is on borrowed time but the longer I can keep it going the better. The parts I used were from Superior Transmission Parts: 4R100 Accumulator Body Repair kit pt # K040 and 4R100 Outer Acc Springs pt #K035.
FWIW, I dropped the pan for accumulator repairs and flushed the trans when done. 22 miles later it started slipping. The repairs fixed my delayed shift issue and it never slipped before. The fluid was very dirty when I got the truck but I had not changed before for fear of issues.
Because I had an issue before I can't say for sure it was fluid, but because that issue was fixed and working fine before the slipping started I have my suspicions.
sorry for not being more specific. The truck goes right into drive and will roll ahead like it should but when you shift into reverse you have to give it throttle for it to move. It acts like it is slipping in reverse
