I have owned this X for less than 4 days and it has given me this issue every single day. It will start fine in the morning and I will drive the 3 miles to work. I usually leave work around 1030 or so for lunch and that's when the fun begins. It's usually between 85-95 degrees by then and the truck is nice a toasty. Some background on the truck. 2000 Ford Excursion Limited 5.4 V8 with 226,150 miles; aftermarket (topsun brand) alarm. I believe it has remote start but I have no idea how to use it. I've noticed that the more I use the clicker the more the no start condition exists. So I just leave the truck unlock and never press any buttons but i do still have the problem in the heat. I'm thinking that maybe a relay or something is overheating but I'm not positive. Only lights I have currently is the ABS light and I haven't even began to troubleshoot that. If its morning or night I can start the truck just fine the first time but if I run to the store for less than 5 mins and try to start it won't start. Wait another 5-10 mins and it will start. It's driving me insane. Any advice? Thanks
I haven't tried starting in neutral or checked the baterry voltage but I'm assuming the starter is fine. I think it's related to the aftermarket alarm or the pats antitheft system. I do not have the factory keys either. Somehow it starts with just a generic key without a chip. I'm thinking of just getting the factory keys and having them programmed. Losing the alarm system and just use the factory keyless entry.
Ive dealt with this several times as several of our 2011-2012 SD PS work trucks have auto start for the cold North Dakota winters. Ive found that if you simply unplug the auto start module and the issue resolves, its the auto start system. have had to take several trucks in for warranty work for the auto start system at the installers facility. Not a fix, but definately puts a fork in the road! Just my .02...
