04 diesel turn key to on position and glow plugs warm up and injectors cycle perfect. turn key all the way to start and nothing... truck does not turn over starter doesnt click or even try. but i do hear a relay clicking under the dash and the lights turn off on the dash while attempting to crank like they should but no go...
the only way to start it is to use the remote start, but even that takes several attempts.
now to make it even better, it only happens when the truck sits for several hours like overnight. once the truck starts then its fine when i shut it off later and come back to it, i can use they key or the remote starts it 1st try.
now it wont start at all ive been trying for hours. i even talked to the instalers of the remote start and tried to re-program it, that didnt work. so we un-hooked it completly and took it out of the equation. but it still wont crank over...
You say it isn't the battery(s). What have you done to be 100% sure it isn't battery related? Sounds like it to me, especially the "it wont start while its been sitting for awhile". Second of all, make absolutely sure you have good clean contact between all your battery connections, grounds etc.
because it starts fine after several attemps with the remote start. when it finally does crank, it cranks strong and fireres right up. batteries are fine
no its not like i can keep holding it and then it cranks like a delay. it wont start with key at all ever after it sits over nights. only with remote... and that takes about 9 attempts and then it just randomly decides it wants to crank. once its started and i drive to wherever and shut it off, i can come back out and it works like nothing was ever wrong. but now i went out today and she wont do anything. ive been at it for hours. eventually did wear down the battery so now i have my other superduty hooked up to it with cables. but she still wont start
Okay, IMO you have something wrong with your remote start unit. I installed a few in the last couple of years, and if I good remember you cut in to the ignition/starter line and install relays what does the job when you push on the button on your remote. If you jump in your truck and step on the brake, you deactivate them, so you shut of the engine / relays, except if you have the key in and at the on position. Am I correct?
So if you can turn in to on position and the lights come up, but no start/ crank , I'm almost sure that you have a problem with your remote unit. Even if it happens only overnight, and then it cranks fine... A simple reset on the remote unit won't repair a bad or going to bad relay...
1. If you are sure the batteries are good!
2. The headlights come on strong.
3. Headlights go out on a no crank.
4. You have a bad connection or ground in the system.
5. If no bad connection then you have a battery with a bad cell.
i would replace the the selenoid on the fender there cheap about $8.00 because i had the same problem with my '00 f-250 and it was the selenoid on the firewall. It is a hard one to diagnose as it will work great sometimes than it won't for no rhyme or reason.
i removed the remote start this afternoon and took it out of the equation completly but it still wont turn over at all.
Did you remove the remote starter unit, and the wire harness too? Because if you leave that in, than there is no question it won't start. Your starter wire - what leads to the starter solenoid been cut to install the relay - what's part of your remote harness, and there is no way you'll be able to start your truck. I still think you have a problem with the remote unit.
You mentioned that your batteries are OK, and the truck won't start with key, but will with the remote.
There is no question about your battery connections, or the starter solenoid.
Follow the remote wire harness, you'll find where they cut in to the factory harness, connect those together, than try it. I'm sure it will start!
when it is a no crank, check both terminals on the starter to make sure fire is there. if there is not fire on the small wire it could be the wire itself, relay (not the solenoid), the wiring from where the remote starter was installed (broke wire). if there is fire there whack the starter with a hammer for a possible solenoid issue on the starter.
