factory security/remote starter

the dealer installed the factory ford security/remote starter since new....
now im having trouble with the truck not starting.
sometimes if i start it with the remote it doesnt start and honks once.
if you get into the truck and try to start it with the key, there is nothing, it wont crank over.... after couple hours it works fine again...
a week later it wont start again, not even with the key.... it leaves me stranded and im getting tired of it....
anybody have any idea or suggestions?
thanks

I have the factory system to. If all the doors are not closed, or if anything is not right, my truck will not start and it will honk once. If I don't use my unlock button on my key chain or if I use my outside key pad, the ignition will not work. I will have to push the hidden button they installed for it to start. I have not had any problems with mine so far. I have know idea if this helps. Did you get an owners manuel with yours?

no I don't. Did you push the button just to see if would start? I don't know how many miles on your truck but it is covered under the 3/36 warranty.

I tried pressing the button, before, during, and after trying to start the truck and nothing happened. I am over the miles for warranty.

I have had a Ford remote start in 3 different trucks and never had this problem. Never used or been told anything about a button. You may be out of the warranty period but I bet a phone call would gain a lot of info. I had a problem with one, called the dealership, and 30 minutes later the installer called me to diagnose it on the phone. He told me it sounded like the antenna came loose and he would come fix it (since I was in warranty). I looked under the dash and bingo, the antenna wire got pulled somehow and pulled the wire out of the plug. 10 minutes later I was in action again.

The point of the story is both the dealer and installer were more than happy to diagnose over the phone. Even though I could have gotten it fixed under warranty I didnt need to. You may have a wire connection to a door or the brake pedal that isnt good and they can tell you what to look for on the phone.

Even though you are over mileage they may still come out to look at it. Remember its Ford that says they will warranty it but in reality Ford doesnt make it and Ford doesnt install it. If you are cool with the installer I would almost bet money they take care of you. If not you are only out a phone call.
