I am finishing up a top end rebuild and found something odd. My 302 had a holly 4bbbl carb on it, with no gasket installed. The carb only has one line comming of the back. I am assuming this is a vacuum line but the hose was not connected to anything, it just hung off the back of the engine.
The question is, what is this line and where does it go???
Members more knowledgable than I can probly advise? My 65 originally came with a 2bbl with a hose running from the spacer to an inlet on the aircleaner. When I went to the Holley 4bbl I purchased a 4 hole spacer with the threaded port and since I had gone with a Edlebrook air cleaner and valve covers, and unable to route the hose without using a combination of hoses and adapters that worked, decided to plug the outlet. Likely not recommended and should be able to purchase an aircleaner with the inlet.
Suggest using gaskets between the spacer and the intake manifold, and another between the spacer and carb, I purchased the heavier fabric/felt type and don't use a sealer.
I did use new gasket (not using a spacer) but can't find where this line would connect. Someone told me its either to the tranny or something to do with brakes but I really don't understand nor can a find where it would connect to either. I also don't see a spot on the air cleaner.
If your truck has an automatic it probly goes to the trans or could go to the brake booster if you have power brakes. If not just plug it off so it wont suck air.
Not familiar with the vacuum routing schmatic for the automatic transmissions, I believe they work of a primary intake vacuum source, whether it's routed thru a modulator, sorry, I could not say.
