Hope it is the right person too. I did tell the detective that the guy is lucky I didn't find him first. I'm sure he hears that a lot.

You have some strong will power.....I would have turned this into a "THIS GUY STOLE MY TRUCK!" thread as soon an I had a photo to post.

I bet the local news channels would put that on the air also....

Since you posted this I cant tell you how many times I have thought about you and your truck. Glad to hear that the local Police Department is working this issue. Yes; I hope they throw the book at him too.

Since your original post I have been using a fuel / ignition cut out system every time I park the truck now - even in front of the house in the driveway because of this thread. I guess that is a good thing with several advantages other than the obvious (that it will make a scumbags life a little bit harder to get my truck) but now I unlock and open the door, get in, put the key in the ignition, enter the bypass code, wait for the glow plug light on the dash to go out and then fire the truck up. It sucks when I am in a hurry and forget to enter the code..turn key = nothing happens except the truck just cranks over and over...

Also saving a few more dollars to get a Viper 5904 Responder HD SuperCode SST 2-Way Security and Remote Start System
with the optional SmartStart

I figure outside of a hungry mean pit bull in the back seat what else can I do?

If you or anyone has a better option of protecting my truck; I am all ears.

Remind me to ask you about "waiting to start a diesel truck until the glow plug light goes out" question I have.... remember; your close enough that we should get that beer and shoot the coal!

just a recommendation regarding smart phones & any security system....

smart phones communications can be hacked into and monitored without much of an issue....once accessed (hacked or spyware) into, people can activate your GPS, now they know your exact location, if connected to your home or vehicle security system, they can not only locate it but obtain unlimited access and in the case of the vehicle, just drive it away without any warning.

Good points Beechkid. My thoughts are: Yes; communications can be compromised, but the people after my 7.3 are probably not of that demographic or technical skill set to make it that easy for them.

Any unscrupulous Ford seeking thief who is at the mall or shopping center parking lot who spies my 7.3 will know my exact location. (i.e.: at the mall or shopping center parking lot.) GPS and hacking are not necessary; just a set of eyeballs with bad intent monitoring the parking lot with a screwdriver.

I hear that these older Ford pickup trucks are a breeze to get into (unlimited access) and drive away with by even a rank amateur thief.

Is this true to you or anyone on the forum as well?

I know that unless I pay an armed squad to watch over my vehicle when I can’t; I am only 80% sure it my be there when I get back. (especially living so close to the Mexican border - Phoenix, AZ where these vehicles are pretty desirable to thieves)

Just trying to make it that much harder for the bad guys to take my Ford and rather have them get caught taking a Chevy….

Trust me; I would rather put that money, time and WORRY to something much more productive…..

Its very easy to break into our trucks..... broke into mine several years ago with a thin screwdriver. I'll explain how easy it is in person. Without damage too... I'm the original owner of my truck, so after 10 years, I've learn quite abit.

FYI- It makes me almost sick when I hear of someone having something stolen from them...even though they are "just objects" it is still very personal.

You are right, basically, the older the vehicle the easier access and drive-a-way theft is but, with the new vehicles and e-based security / comm systems, it is almost easier now for a person with just a little tech skill to "requisite' your vehicle...they no longer have to "break-in", the software will allow that and yes, even start the vehicle.
