Not my truck. '05 550 6.0 Temp gauge went to max after a 15 min road trip and trouble codes are P0117 Engine coolant temp circuit low, P0528 Fan speed no signal and P1464 A/C out of test range when we do KOEO or KOER. I tried the sticky's and a search but no help. Suggestions?
OK, after some search time we found that Ford had a TSB on these things for the clutch fan replacement when throwing theses codes. We picked up a new one but yet to install. The truck will not go 5 miles cold start ( ambient temp was *90) before the A/E shows 240+ temps when plugged up. Owner had T stat changed and the mechanic that changed said the truck heated right up to max temp on gauge. Are we now looking at bad water pump? With these closed systems I don't see how you check water flow.
I will go by the truck and get the TSB printed by Ford and post later. The truck never boiled over even with a spike on the laptop of *247. I counted that as a good coolant mix. It may very well be a sending unit. With no pressure on reservoir cap and no boil over makes sense. A simple mechanical gauge or infrared tester could help with that I'm thinking. THANKS
OK Bismic- Mark? I swapped the sensors and plugged up the A/E and the truck started with engine oil temp @ 157* and coolant @ 88*. Coolant rose to 191* and oil temp went to 301* and truck was running bad, did not want to go. Finally found a sensor (Ford did not have it, had to order, NAPA said the closet one in Indiana, we're in Va.) and installed it and cleared codes. Coolant temp started @ 76* and oil @73*. Ran truck 1/2 hour at highway speeds and temps were coolant 189.XX* and oil temp 203.XX* Truck ran pretty good. I'm still driving a OBS 7.3 and this thing has power!! Brought it back and turned it off and found no codes, just the generic stuff it tells you when nothing wrong. The A/E works better every time I use it, like maybe it needs breaking in. Thanks again, really guys. With no codes the friend will probably take the unopened clutch fan back for refund.
