Hey guys, truck in sig.'99 F250 4x4,the flasher under the radio behind a dash panel,(theres two,I'm refering to the one closest to the seat),keeps going bad,I noticed I had no signals, four way flashers,or brake lights(but third brake light will work),it went out and I replaced it with an Oreillys unit and it only lasted about a week,I replaced it again hoping maybe I got a bad one from Oreillys, but its out again after only a month or so of only weekend driving. The only code AE is showing is something about the KAM or something,I can't check as I'm not home right now.Anyone have any thoughts on this...Thanks..Phil
If the flasher is a standard flasher (thermal type), you have ground problems. Basicly a short circuit in the turn signal or lighting circuit. This will heat the flasher, but not enough to cause blinking. It melts the bimetal strip that opens the circuit. The 3rd brake light is ground switched, that's why it still works.
Check wiring to the lights, and grounds of the lights. Expect to find bare wire touching ground somewhere that it shouldn't.
OK I wanted to give an update. After doing some searching I found some info regarding the wiring in the steering column,as I said before I replaced the flasher(twice),when my wife was driving it the signals quit working again, come to find out, when she pulled the tilt wheel down a little that's what caused them to stop working.I don't have time to go into the steering column since we are leaving this week for our beach trip, but when we get back I'll research more and figure out exactly what wires are causing trouble and post up when I figure out the fix...Phil
