Alarm/wiring ? Door input (switch)

So I'm installing an alarm and one of the pickups is for the door input. Need to use the wire for the dome light because of door switches. I was thinking about connecting the alarm input wire to the Black/blue wire in the bottom of the door game which would make it really easy but then I got to thinking. If this wire keeps 12v on it from the timer when the door is closed then I couldn't set the alarm until the light shuts off. For those of you who have done your own alarms, is my thinking correct or am I wrong. I can somewhat get to that Black/blue wire in the gray plug to the right of the steering column but boy what a pita. Any thoughts, please post up. Thanks Brice

I didn't install my alarm, but as long as the door is closed it will set correctly, mine notifies me if i set it and one of the trip sensors ie: door ajar, impact, or glass break is tripped when i set it, and as long as the door is closed it doesn't show that sensor being tripped, even with the light on

Thanks a lot for the quick response. I guess I will go ahead and try it and see what happens. Logic tells me it should set the alarm off since there is power there ( thats how it knows the door has been opened) but it's a lot easier to get to the wire in the door.

Again thanks. Brice

Have you checked it for power when the door is closed?

Yes, power stays on for about 30 seconds and then goes off. Thats why I was thinking I couldn't use the wire running in the door jam.Or I would have to wait for the power to shut off then arm the system.

Just checked alldata, and it said it should be a yellow/black wire if it has keyless entry, and light green/yellow without keyless entry, noticed you said black/blue in your op

Hummm, the wire diagram I have says Black/Blue(+) Gray plug, right side of steering column, for the door input. I went to the door jam and there is a Black/Blue (+). I checked it and it's dead until the door opens then 12.5v. It stays hot for about thirty seconds and then it goes dead. Thats why I was thinking I would not be able to set the alarm until after the dome light goes out. I might be in the same boat with the L-Green/Yellow because of the timer also.

I will now go and look for the Light Green/Yellow.
Thanks a lot for taking the time and look it up for me. I've done several searches for days looking for info and haven't really found all that much info.

Thanks, Brice

Okay, just looked at the next page down when i searched and it was the connector for the light itself and that is black/blue with a black ground, if the yellow/black or light green/yellow doesn't have power when the door's closed you may have to tap into that, may want to check that one for power when the each of the doors are open individually, the other 3 are Black/white or light green/yellow for driver rear, grey/red or pink/light blue for passenger front and black/white, grey/orange, or pink/light blue for passenger front

Thank you so much for keeping up with me.

First off I working on a extra cab and not a crew. Maybe that will help.

By chance can you tell me the colors for the wires as follows,

Driver door switch,

Passenger Door,

Where do they tie together,

From the tie, what color is the wire.

I'm thinking if the drivers door and pass tie together and I can access that, that should be before the relay that provides power fo up to 30 seconds.

And of course I might be putting to much thought into this 30 second thing. I just would really like to set the alarm as soon as I get out and start to walk away.

Couldn't find it, says it should be the same weather it's rc sc or cc, it does not on the rear that it's crew cab only, i think there's not switch for the rear on a SC because the fact that the front door needs to be open to open the rear door. I'm trying to post an image, but alldata won't let me copy the img code to do so, it also only shows "anti-theft" on the driver front door, the other 3 just show "switch sense" as the wire function

Thanks so much,

I just tried a couple of things.
First, I closed all doors. Opened the drivers door and dome light on. Got in and put key in the ignition and turned, light out. Pulled key.
Second, open door got out, closed door and light out. So that would sole the issue as to what I was thinking.
Third, open door, dome light on.
Fourth close door, dome light stays on for 30 seconds.
So, knowing that I might have to wait the 30 seconds before arming system. For now I think I'll try and go with that and see how it works out.

Thank you very much for the help. Brice
