I have a 2007 F-350 with a Viper 5000 Alarm on it. When they installed the alarm, I had them do the dome light supervision so whenever I disarm the truck, the dome light comes on. Last weekend, I was also under the dash to wire up the high idle mod.
This past week, and it seems to only happen within about a minute of me starting my truck, all the sudden the dome light kicks on and the message center says "door ajar" even though all doors are closed. And this could last for like a half a second up to around 5. Then it goes out, and it doesnt seem to happen again during that trip. And it doesn't happen everytime I start the truck either.
I am wondering if it could be something with the alarm as the guy told me he had to tap a door wire in order to make the dome light supervision work, or if there is a sticky contact or something in the door. Any advice would be much appreciated!
I would guess it has to do with the changes you made because the truck is brand new. I had this happen this week to my 2003 F250 on a really wet morning. I did some forum searching and found others who had this happen on wet days, some suggested spraying the door latches with WD40 or another lube. They says this is where the contacts for the door minders are. I waited a few days and the problem self corrected once it had dried out.
Pull the fuse on your Viper and see if your problem vanishes. The Viper might be providing a path to ground which fools the truck into thinking the door is open.
I suspect the alarm installer will have to install a diode on one of the alarm leads to prevent feedback from the alarm to the doorswitch.
