Looks like you have posted this question twice. The reason you got no response to your first post is that you haven't provided the necessary information for the folks here to help you. Does your engine have a 2 or 4 barrel carburetor? Stock or aftermarket intake? If an aftermarket intake what brand and model? What is the compression ratio of your engine? Are you running a single or dual exhaust system? Are you running a straight drive transmission? If so is it a 3 or 4 speed? If you are running an automatic transmission what type is it? What is your rear axle ratio and what size rear tires?

Don't expect an answer that will be worth anything to you until you provide the information necessary for us to help you.

I do apologize for that. The engine is stock with a 2 barrel and single exhaust. It's a 4 speed.

I would check out the Comp Cams "Thumper" series. They are made to produce a noticeable idle but smooth out with a little RPM and produce good mid range torque. One of the smaller Thumper's may fit the bill for you. Give Comp Cams a call and provide them with the info you posted here and I am sure they will steer you in the right direction.

You should also consider going to headers and dual exhaust. This will help improve performance and fuel mileage as well as provide a "nice sound" based on the type mufflers you chose.

If you want a choppy idle then the Thumper series is a good choice. If you want power in a lower rpm range then the Extreme 4x4 series would be a better grind.Headers, intake, carb and head work are good supporting mods.

I've ran several of comp cam extreme 4x4 cams in 302's and have been very happy with each. With what you have I'd run the XE250H. It'll only get better with carb, intake, headers, etc.... If you know you're going to add a carb, intake and header might go ahead with the XE256H. Just don't over cam!!! You're always better off going smaller than bigger!!!

The answer to your question can best be answered by the cam manufacturer. Myself and others can tell you "what we recommend" or "what worked for us" but there is no guarantee it will work for you. You would be best off making a call and chatting with one of the technical support folks at your cam manufacturer of choice.

A cam swap without supporting mods will be disappointing and a waste.Generally, the first and most beneficial mods are those that allow the engine to "breathe" better with the OEM bumpstick and then progress from there. On these Ford smallblocks the stock exhaust is a huge restriction.A free flowing exhaust will release power and economy as will a four barrel and intake.Look at the 302/351w section on this forum for ideas on engine mods.

What kind of 4bbl would you recommend? I don't need too much power as I'm only 15.

You should get more information/knowledge about engines.Read the threads about 302/351 engine basics.Longtube headers with dual exhaust will give the most bang for your buck. Then get the induction side.I wouldn't go any bigger than 600 cfm vacuum secondary on a stock 302 and even that might be too much.It all depends on the engine's condition/state of tune to begin with.Your ability to tune after the install is also a factor since you WILL have to tune it(adjust air/fuel ratio, timing, idle, vacuum secondary operation,etc...)after you install any part that alters the air/fuel intake and exhaust.Don't let that scare you away from modifying you truck. It's a wonderful disease. We all started with little knowledge and learned something(I'm still learning)new after and during every project.Ask questions.
