Need more info on this 302, is it stock? Are you going to keep it stock? Are you going to use stock heads? What kind of exhaust are you running? All these things will make a difference on which cam you want to get.

it's out of Lincoln, about 81,I've got an edelbrock 2121 intake,ed,600 carb, heads will be just standard at the moment, cannot afford better, exhaust just a cherry or muffler and on side.thanks
I have run that cam in a 302 and in a 289 and both times I loved it. It has a lot of chop and a very aggressive sound as well as decent drive-ability. It will give you a strong mid range and pulls hard around 2000 rpm - 5500 rpm. Your exact combination will affect how well this camshaft will work in your engine. Compression, valve size, port flow, intake type, header type, exhaust design, and carburetor will all be things you need to match to help this cam achieve its potential. However, the most important factor in any camshaft selection in my experience is actually the transmission. If you are running an automatic, this camshaft will be too radical for a stock torque converter. You will need to select a stall converter that will match the engine's new power curve. On the other hand, if you are running a manual transmission, it will be easier to run this camshaft. I prefer manual trans in performance builds because they are much more forgiving to mismatches in combination. Give Summit or Edelbrock a call to help you out with your decision. They both have tech guys that can walk you through your exact build combination and help you select the right camshaft to meet your goals.
IMHO, that's way more cam than your engine can use effectively. I think you would be sadly disappointed with it.Your intake is really no better than the stock 289 4v, except in aluminum, and with stock exhaust and Lincoln smog heads, you'll always be messing with it trying to get it to run right.
A cam that would be better suited for your package is one from Ford. It's a hydraulic version Ford developed based on the characteristics of the 271 hp, hipo 289 solid lifter cam. It's known as the C9OZ-C and is (afaik) still available from Ford. An outlet that will ship to you across the pond, and that I believe keeps them in stock is Glaziers Mustang Barn.
