96 hard start
This is my Dads truck and I'm trying to help him long distance so ANY help would be nice. Like it says hard to start, cold or warm no difference. It takes 4 or 5 times of cranking to get it to start and will almost start but doesn't untill after the 4 to 5 time deal. It also helps it to start if the accelerator is about 1/2 down. When it does start, lots of white smoke, not so much when warm. Once running it runs fine, no noticeable problems, no bucking, stalling etc. good power.
What's been checked so far is: GPR, harness and plugs them selves, OK. Engine oil level OK, does not gain on dipstick, not foamy either. There is oil in the HPOP, 1/2'' from plug. No fuel or oil leaks anywhere. Fuel will come out of the service port on the filter housing when engine is running if you push the schrader valve, however, when engine is not running no fuel will come out of the valve at all. Is this normal? Is it supposed to bleed down within seconds of the engine off? Have not checked for faults as I don't have a scan tool just yet but want to do what I can first.
If the injector o rings were leaking would fuel leak into the combustion chamber or just the crankcase? If this is my problem, how would one determine which injector(s) are leaking, without a scan tool? Sorry if this is long but I tried to remember what's been done to hopefully have an idea what to do next. Any Ideas??
