Leaking return lines?
Let me first introduce myself: I'm a new member to the forum, but following the threads for a while since it's a huge source of information during troubleshooting my 86 F250 6.9l I bought 6 months ago.
But now I've the following going on: One of the injector return lines seems to be leaking (quit badly already). I think it's the return line and not the injector itself because the motor is running real fine when idle and not smoking at all. Only thing is it takes a while before it starts (after a night or so) because of the air in the lines I guess.
I ordered the return line kit but it takes some days before I have it, but I wanna drive the truck tomorrow for 50miles and back. Question is: is that a smart idea or will it leak more and more during that trip and making a mess under the hood and a puddle under the truck?
The return lines are not the original ones actually, the're already replaced by the previous owner but now already leaking...
Thanks!
If you're that concerned, you can 'pop' the plastic return piece on the injector up off where it's seated and pack petroleum jelly into the contact areas (near the o-rings) this will at least temporarily slow the leak.
