hello all, thanks for helping me out. i am putting a 1950 f1 pickup body on a newer chassis and running gear. has anyone done this and want to comment on it? any chassis that work well with f1 body?
This question is asked all the time from people, especially newby's, and the same answer we always give is don't do it, it won't work like you think it will, and 99% of body swap projects turn into someone's junk pile and are sold for scrap. There's got to be a hundred threads on this site that covers the subject in greater detail. I would suggest doing a google search for 'ford trucks body swap' and see what you find.
You would be better served if you came here telling us about your project, what you would like to accomplish with your build, and what you intend to do with it. We can guide you in a better direction that way.
Just to confirm, Wayne isn't kidding. I can only think of a couple of half-completed frame swaps on here, only two that were on the road but not done, and one of them was a 4x4 swap where the body was far enough above the frame that it didn't matter what was down there. Most modern frames are much wider, have a big kickup where the bed needs to be, and on and on. Much more practical to modify the original frame to use modern components. They aren't so bad stock, either!

One of the most frequently asked questions, and the one with the simplest answer: NO!
We're not trying to be ugly, nasty, discouraging, or unfriendly, or are we all in love with trucks with stock chassis. Quite the opposite, this is a very friendly and helpful site. That is just the honest and complete answer. The OEM frame can be easily modified with whatever modern feature your heart desires (and your pocketbook can afford!), but it really isn't a bad design as it came from the factory, or with a few easy and inexpensive mods.
52 Merc's answer is right on. Experience has shown that 99% of those asking your question don't have the experience, equipment, or finances to do a frame swap successfully even if there was one that would be a reasonable possibility to use, and will be in way over their head right from the start. Do you want a truck you can drive and enjoy, or a pile of expensive and/or cut up parts with no resale value that never sees the outside of the garage?
I did it with an 195454 f100 and an 19763 dodge d100 pickup frame i had to chop and section the frame and made my verison of body mounts. I did have an FLAT level floor in my shop and can t measure enough times then box the frame and took it on its first big road trip today 99at miles and drove great! Good luck but do look over every thing first no simple process
If your still wanting to do this after everyones advice. The s10 or ranger frames can work, but I'm with everyone else to keep it original and just update the components you don't like original.
Welcome to the forum!
Spend your time on other hurdles. there ARE other hurdles.
If your frame is trashed or gone, there has got to be other frames through this forum.
I have been through some hurdles myself, and trust these guys, you will hate yourself at times!
What's with your frame?
