frame coating.

hello all, ive seen so many people helping so much with others and its great to see. so i value peoples opinions here. and like the title says im getting ready to coat my frame. ive got a wire wheel im going to take all the surface rust off with. but im not sure what i should go with to coat the frame. i want something long lasting but fairly cheap in price. i was originally thinking to get a bucket of ryno lining or get some kind of sealer.

so my question is, in everyones experience/opinion. whats the best thing to have a long lasting thick coat for a decent price. thanks in advance for all the imput.

-Jerry

I don't know if this classifies as "cheap" but I like the POR-15 products. However it doesn't like a real smooth perfectly clean surface.

You can get you some Rustoleum paint and do that.
It will help keep the rust from spreading.
After that drys well, you could brush or spray any coating(bedliner stuff or whatever) on and should work ok.
I used rustoleum under mine as I don't have any salt problems here.
I just cleaned it up a little with wire brush on grinder and sprayed it.
The half gallon or gallon cans are cheaper if you have a sprayer.
Good Luck and welcome to FTE. Trav.

Rustoleum is good stuff and is far cheaper.

I personally can't see spending a boatload of money on a ~30 yo truck to keep it from rusting... as if the truck is going to last another 30 years.

Zero Rust is nothing more than a Rustoleum-type paint

I know a guy here in NY That uses the Rustoleum Industrial paint on his trailers, with real good results.

I used Rustoleum semi-gloss black on my frame and engine bay. Very happy with the results and it was cheap to do. Where I live they have it in the extra tall cans for under $10.

Also, True Value hardware stores have an oil based enamel called X-O Rust. It is about 30$ gal.
I used it on my 20ft utility trl and 18ft car hauler.
Works great!! Looks decent.
Works good on farm implements as well. Trav.
