my shift collar broke ,so i took off steering wheel and got a new collar from lmc
when i put it on and shove it down to engage the linkage there is a keeper a bearing and a snap ring that holds it all together on the shaft
the problem is now there is a space of about one half inch between the bearing and the snap ring
if i let the spring tenson on the shift tube up so that the bearing reaches the snap ring the shift tube no longer engages the shift linkage
i didnt do anything to the truck other than pull the steering wheel off and remove the **** collar
i dont get it
help
My shift collar broke, so I took off steering wheel and got a new collar from lmc.
When I put it on and shove it down to engage the linkage there is a keeper a bearing and a snap ring that holds it all together on the shaft. These parts (upper steering column bearing, sleeve and snap ring) have nothing to do with the shift collar, fit into the top of the upper flange.
Welcome to FTE
Please, when asking questions, list all the pertinent details, for example: Series of truck; 2WD or 4WD; A/T or M/T.
I assume this is an F100/150/250/350, not a Ranchero.
1975: There are TWO different shift collars, one for A/T, the other for M/T. Which type did you buy?

I have this diagram already, thanks. But I still cant figure out why there is a gap, and I don't want to tear into the whole column and steering linkage unless I have to. Am I missing something?
