Out of curiousity (and perhaps bravado), I took my '99 F250 SD CC with lovely rusted utility bed out for a full blast, pedal to the metal test.
This POS has been bogging on small hills, threw a CEL (that's now dark) and almost left me stranded in the middle of BFE. So today, I tried to see if it would bog again and I floored it. I mean FLOORED it to 6K 90mph+.
Does this thing redline? No redline on the tach...
when the pcm or computer tells it it is at redline, you can not over rev this way. Flooring the pedal, the truck will not let you go past the redline. If the truck is a manual I think it is possible to over rev on a down shift but that is about the only to do so.
Since your 99' has an NPI 2V it may be lower but the 03' and 04' V10 with the 2V PI I've tuned had the rpm limit in drive and in neutral set at 5300rpm. If your engine actually spun to 6,000rpm there probably would have been pieces from a rod saying uncle.
A V10 is a high revving engine///that's the advantage of having more but smaller pistons than a V8. You don't even get the full rated horsepower until 4750 rpms (that's for the 362 hp, 3 valve version, iv cringed pulling my 5er up hills hit 5k a couple times but im assured by my garage just drive it however i typically try to keep under 4k
