It sounds like it's slipping and needs a new clutch. A hydraulic problem would do the opposite and it would stay engaged and cause shifting problems. My suggestion would be replace Clutch, Throwout Bearing, and Slave Cylinder, and bleed the system.
classic symptoms of a worn clutch disc. You'll probably be surprised how much better it feels after replacement.
If yours has a pilot bearing, replace that in addition to the t/o bearing.
