Sticky Clutch
I have a '92 Ranger XLT, am the original owner and it has roughly 128,000 miles on it. It's a 5 speed with a 3.0L engine, 2wd, 2 dr with a/c.
I recently bought a bottle of Lucas fuel additive from Autozone to clean out my fuel system and possibly clean the O2 sensors in the process too, but since I added it, the clutch grabs more quickly than it used to and it's hard to shift in and out of gear sometimes while moving. Oh, guess I should add that the truck has the original clutch in it.
Now I don't know what the heck a fuel additive would have to do with how the clutch behaves, but it definitely has affected it. The same thing happened a couple of years ago when I sprayed some STP Throttle Body and Air Intake Cleaner into the air horn to clean the carbon from the butterfly seat. It kept doing this for quite some time until the effects of the STP wore off, but now I have a whole tankful of the fuel additive to wait out and it's got me concerned.
Is there a sensor that could be affected by fuel additives and in turn is affecting the clutch function?
#1: I think that the clutch-grab always existed but now it's more prominent now that the combustion system is cleaner and thus theoretically more powerful.
And Your Right! It doesn’t seem right that a fuel additive should affect the clutch but from my vantage point it seems possible.<O

#2: As you also mentioned she has the original clutch...sticking slave cylinder would cause this clutch-grab problem.<O

Hopefully mine is a resolve to your dilemma.
