ok, truck is tore down to the frame and i'm attempting to change all the bushings in the rear, needless to say it's going that easy. anyone got any suggestions ? i can't get any to turn and only managed to get one nut off.
Soak ALL threaded connections with Kroil, PB Blaster or other QUALITY thread penetrant and allow to sit at least overnight. Take your time, use six point sockets and everything will eventually come apart. Just finished doing this on my 74 and its not that bad.
+1 to Canus. I have used PB blaster on alot of hardware that has been rusted on. Let soak and life will be easier. I have applied several coats over several hours to more stubborn bolts for more peace of mind.
I can't speak for Kroil but I have used PB Blaster the main thing is that you use it today to make tomorrows work much easier, you will end up with fewer broken parts and knuckles. Soak everything then find something else to do or just take the rest of the day off, soak, spray it all again tonight.
Tomorrow will be a good day. no cheating
i'll try that on the other side, i used a grinder and cut off wheel and sawzall to do the one side, still not that easy though. propane torch was working great to burn the old bushings out until the neighbors called the cops about the smell.
agree with whats been said. PB blaster the day before, then respray before working on it. Use a flex bar instead of a ratchet, and good 6 point sockets. Heat can help.
I don't think burning out the bushings will help you get the bolts out...
I'd get the bolts out first then work on the bushings off the truck.
ok,, i ended up just cutting the bolts and the burning the bushings out. next problem is endless emails with the company i bought my new ones from because nothing they sent me fits. uuuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh..
sent them an email tonight lets see how this works out. as far as the cops goe, they were cool. actually chatted abit about the truck itself. as for my neighbors go ...lets just say that they better have the cops on speed dial because i got a long way to go with this thing.
The best kinda bushings to get, imo, are the 2 piece ones that slide in from each end. Its a captive style joint at the hangers /shackles anyway, and they are much easier to install.
