has anyone had trouble with wiper motor parking higher than it should, when wiping they almost hit the molding but in park they stop about 4 inches higher any help figuring this out would be appreciated

Chris, It is fairly common for these trucks, when what I'll call bushings wear. This creates more movement for slapping and parking over the line.

The parking problem may not have anything to do with the wiper motor.

The wiper arms (that the blades attach to) are splined as are the wiper pivots they slip onto.

Some people remove the wiper arms, then when they reinstall them, place them in the wrong location on the pivots.

When this occurres, the wipers won't park in the correct location.

i've adjusted the wiper arms so that they almost hit the windshield rubber but when i cut them off they stay up higher on the windshield about 4 to 5 inches above the rubber, the problem is even worse when the windshield is dry, when i pull up on the arms they will move up &down about 3 to 4 inches, acts like there may be some play somewhere but i have not been able to locate it, they seem to go to the bottom and then bounce back up when turned off

The wipers in my truck go to far open and get stuck on the curve of the windshield, I had to reach out and tap it back down, sounds like its the same issue with them not being replaced in the right position, havent really looked into it to much

If you can manually move the arms 3 to 4 inches, the splines on the arms and/or the pivots (most likely both) are badly worn. These splines should have defined sharp edges.

The splines on your arms/pivots are probably worn down as flat as a pancake, are next to useless. Your truck is over 46 years old, nothing lasts forever.

I have already replaced both pivots and wiper arms, I even replaced the motor and arms with a pretty nice used piece. I really appreciate all the feedback on this problem
