I have a 1987 Ford Diesel IDI. Heres the lowdown, I would go to start periodically thruout summer and it would always start. Then she slowly stopped starting, charge the battery and away I go, only to have it kill the battery as driving. not sitting in driveway. So I got alternator tested and it was fine. I put in a new voltage regulator plugged it in and tossed in a nicely charged battery. So I go for a nice joyride and see the voltage gauge on dash slowly goin down. Sure enough I turn it off and no start. So basically it doesnt die sitting for a week or two, but driving it does. It is a dual battery setup, would one battery be bad and do this, or bad regulator or what do I do, Im lost, Im mechanically inclined but diesels and electricity are a new thing to me.
Thank you in advance!!!
Fusible link between your fender-mounted starter solenoid and the alternator.....it's a black chunk about 3-8 inches down (I've seen them all different lengths) I have rebuilt many of those pieces, not hard.
Well I figured it out, I checked a fusible links, yes ALL!! and the one coming out of alternator, the orange one had no juice with key on, so I checked at the regulator and still nothing. The damn ignition wire goin to regulator with key on wasnt giving power, So I got power on it and I think I figured it out.
