I have a 01 250 superduty cc had the bearing go out and cracked the compressor housing. I replaced the compressor had the system open just lomg enough to switch compressors. Have access to vacuum pump and gauges will it be ok to just vacuum and recharge the system. thanks for the help
I sounds like it didn't lose any refrigerant when the housing cracked?
If you're absolutely positive:
1) there was no debris let loose in the system,
2) minimal or no oil was lost during failure and discharge
Then it should be OK.
The hard part is knowing there is the proper amount of oil. The oils that have to be used in the R134a systems is really marginal. Proper quantity is pretty critical.
If you know some was lost but not sure enough to know how much to put in, it really is worth it to flush all the old out and start with fresh quantity.
