I currently have a donor 79 Mustang with 302 and Trans runs great. I plan on installing it in my 1960 F100. Here us my questions. How would this engine run in my truck being that it was set up for a car? Would I be better off getting a bigger engine for my truck? I'm leaning towards getting a bigger efI. I don't want anything big. Any I ideas?
But remember, a '79 302 is only good for about what, 140 horse?
And it is not a bolt in, you know you have to get mounts, and adapt everything else, right? It isn't a hard swap, but it's not simply dropping it in place. You may need a different oil pan also--isn't the Mustang a dual sump?
As for a 5.4, it will outpower the 302 by quite a margin, but you need to bring the computer, trans and wiring harness over to your vehicle to make it work. LOTS of work imo....
Well I'm going to swap out the crossmember so it doesn't matter if I have to fab mounts. I'm just not sure that the Mustang engine is a good match for my truck. If I do efi I plan on getting everything. If I can I would like to get a wreck truck to use the Trans and motor. It would be nice to find a combo out of a lightning. I
don't know what the Trans is to the Mustang. I'm going to use the crown Vic k member. I'm in the planning stages right now so I appreciate all the help I can get.
I"ve got a 67 F100 and I'm leaning toward the 5.0 coyote motor with a 6 speed. Ford has a stand alone computer wiring kit for that combo for around $1800. The coyote motors are starting to show up in junkyards. I saw a 2012 mustang with 5.0/6 speed go for $5000 the other day. It had an interior fire, but the motor area was untouched. https://www.iaai.com/auctions/branch...branchcode=418 Depending on where you live, sometimes you can buy from here without having a license. Even if you don't have one, they're not hard to get.
That '79 mustang engine is a complete turd as it stands but it has 300-400hp potential with a topend swap(heads, cam, intake, carb) which won't have any problem pushing your relatively small truck around with authority with appropriate axle gearing.
