anyone have any recent and/or longterm results with flowtech headers?
They are on sale at summit and have me thinking about them or sticking with manifolds on my 86 f350 i currently have the front clip off and engine pulled.
If going with headers are you guys using a standard starter or a mini-torker?
My only experience w/Flowtech is their mufflers.I think they were Raptors or Afterburners.Anyway, they rusted through in about 8 months.I have Hedman longtubes #89340 in a '88 F250 4x4 chassis with swap mounts and auto trans.I use a starter with remote solenoid.I also wrapped the starter w/heat wrap to avoid any issues as it is a tight fit.
I was going to put a set of flowtechs on my 87 but changed my mind. Long story short, I just didn't feel like messing with them any more and just put the manifolds back on. . .
They fit great, cleared everything nice except the dipstick. You'll need to bend or buy an after market one to put on the firewall. . .I also upgraded to the late model gear reduction starter. I would recommend that mod whether you are doing headers or not No issues with sealing for the short driveway thunder sessions I had, lol. . .
BTW, the headers are for sale as is the crossover pipe I made Can't find a pic of the crossover though
I put flowtechs on my old '90 302. They leaked right away. So I bought better gaskets, tried them again, still leaked. Bought copper gaskets and those bolts with an allen bolt inside the hex bolt to keep them tighter, didn't matter... still leaked. And two separate exhaust shops couldn't get the pipes to hook up to them without leaking either. All told, including a 3" exhaust system with flowmaster 40 and performance cat I spent $1,500 on a leaky exhaust system.
I'm looking for headers for my 460 now, wouldn't even consider flowtechs.
