My 2004 for Excursion 6.0 has a problem with the rear air. This problem seemed to gradually increase over the past year or so. The rear air blows hot. Any ideas?
Since you specify it's only the rear A/C not working, I will assume (and you know what ASSUMING does right?) you mean your main unit is blowing nice and cold, correct? If so, I will GUESS that you have an issue with your rear blend door actuator and/or the temperature control, by the sounds of things.
If the main unit is blowing cold, it stands to reason that there is no issue with freon leaks in the system, and that you have a temperature control issue with the rear unit. That said, if the system does not require "opening up", the answer is yes you can replace your own parts. But I wouldn't go jumping the gun to throw parts at it until you pinpoint the cause.
Remove your third row seat. Remove the right side quarter trim panel to give you access to the rear blend door actuator. Remove the three 7 or 8mm bolts that secure the actuator to the housing. Turn on your rear A/C. Try moving the blend door by hand to see if there are any issues with the blend door itself being broken or binding. If you can move it freely by hand, check to see if the air coming out of the registers are cold.
