trans and diff swap

trans and diff swap

I'm having no luck finding a side shift trans for my boss' 51 F1. Will a passenger car trans fit? How about the diff, gear ratio?

How about more info? Which engine? Which rear end? Keeping it stock or modifying it?
I have an original side shift trans I would part with.....not sure what you are looking for though.

Car trans' have a smaller input shaft diameter compared to trucks.

The engine is an 8BA flathead and the diff looks like a 9". The truck is going stock. This is my first Ford build and I don't know what interchanges. How much do you want for the trans? Do you know the approximate weight so I can figure out the shipping cost?

The ford car trans through 48 had closed drive shaft, I know from 46 up, trucks had open drives. If you can find a side shift car trans or case, swap the output shaft and mount, and you're ready to go. The smaller input shaft on cars started with the 49 models.
