This has been making me mad for a while now. As a farmer and rancher who actually uses a 350 or 250 to "work", it gets me every time I go to town and see a 250 or 350 all shined up with their chrome wheels and lift kits. I try to keep mine clean, that is not the point. The point is that what happened to the diesels that you can hear from across the street, suspension systems that actually hold up to weight. So what if it rides rough, it is supposed to it is a truck not a cadillac. Now we have trucks that make all the people in the city happy that never leave the city let alone dirt. And truth be known the EPA coming into play is from all the city slicker diesels that thinks it is cool to blow black smoke or severly over fuel the engine. And when it is time for and upgrade on my truck I can't find one because all the office people think it is neat to own a diesel and then they gripe when their egr gets plugged all the time or it goes into regen alot. On the other side it is funny to drive in town and look at the driveways of houses and the diesels are sitting outside because they won't fit in the garage.
Mine is doesn't go 'offroad' or see dirt ever. Mine is always 'shined up' as you say with chrome wheels and a lift kit. You can hear mine from across the neighborhood too.
My EGR will never get plugged, regens don't happen and it does blow black smoke. Fits in the garage as well!
I think you need to come to terms with the new generation of truck owners. Not everyone 'works on the farm'. Some people (like myself) just like to drive a truck and want to make it nice. Not sure why you have a problem with that?
I don`t use any of my trucks for farm work, they hardly ever go offroad. I live in the country, and am in the trucking industry. I have my 3 Super duties because I tow, The trailers I tow are heavy, and take lots of suspension. I keep all 3 of them shined up, The one I drive to my office everyday gets washed and detailed once a week. Whether it needs it or not. I have a 4x4 because Where live, when it snows, it snows a lot! When I do go offroad, there is sand and mud( if it rains). When it comes down to it, I buy these big trucks because I tow. Don`t get me wrong there is not a better looking vehicle on the road. But I actually NEED my super duty, for those that dont really need theirs. It really doesn`t matter. They are great looking trucks. I would have no problem taking my shined up chromed out Super duty to A nice resturant, or out for a night on the town.
It is not that I'm not into terms with the new generation of truck buyers. It is the fact that if I want to use my pickup for hauling I have to put a lot of money into it even though it is a 350 dually. The pulling part is not what I have to fix. It has the power to pull anything. And besides that, your rigs look nice hell if i didnt have to pull a trailer i would have a lift on mine It just sux on our end that we need a pickup the way it used to be built. Not the way it is now with the softer ride and no strength.

I will say, the new trucks sag wayyyy to much. It is embarrassing to me as a ford truck owner to see the new ones sagging like they do. If they can way find a way to get rid of the sag, and still handle good loads, I vote that would be the way to do it. It is aggravating, to have to add a leaf, or airbags, for your truck to not look like you`ve severely over loaded it.
I'm not saying you have to farm or ranch to own a super duty. I'm saying that all the people that have one and doesn't ever tow or haul anything are the people I'm talking about. I know there are all kinds of jobs where people use their trucks to work.
Duke, I'm not sure what kind of problems you're having with your 350 dually but I routinely put 3000 lbs in the back of my 350 single. With this load it sits just about dead level. If your unhappy with excessive squat, I'd put a set of airbags on it. The 350 single has taller axle blocks than the dually so it sits up in the rear pretty high when empty, so I guess I'm not seeing it as a problem as you do. The suspension is more limber than an old school 1 ton no doubt, but the ride quality is SO much better.I certainly don't see this as a weakness. - Rice farmer,Northern California.
SO FAR, we each still get to chose and decide on SOME parts of our life and where we spend the little money left from all the new taxes coming down the pike .....
but that could change quickly with these gooberment yahoos
but to your original question, what happened ?!? Sales drives what they build...
if they build a work truck and you only buy one every ten years, what are they going to do in between ?!?
They build what they can sell to the dealers, and the dealers buy/order what they know they can sell... simple as that !
I put well over 3,000lbs in back of my 350 as well. it bairly touchs the overloads. no complaints here. Im alot older and my body thanks the softer ride,i couldnt ride the distance in my old tanks that would shake and beat ya to death. the comfort of these are awsome. but if the accasion arises i need more help in the rear, air bags are cheap, i personally think they should be a standard item on the truck, or at least a option.
My truck sees a gooseneck dump trailer loaded past max a very lot of its life.it works much easier than my old tanks. I can get out at end of day and say dang my kidneys are still in tack, and i still have a back.
And no mine dont stay spotless going in and outta of quarries. And every quarry i go to, everyone who sees my truck, says man thats a purty truck.
On our 350 duallies the rear blocks are the same blocks as they put on a 250. The 350 SRW has 2" taller blocks. Which makes no sense at all to me. My dually even has the camper package and still sags with very little weight added. I know I could add airbags but I shouldn't have to on a 350 dually. After all ford is supposed to be the best aren't they?
I had 05 f250 ford truck hook up to any trailer did not know if it was there, never squat in the rear. Have a 2012 hook up same trailers and the truck squats should have to put aftermarket parts to make the truck ride level!
Truck should ride like truck. If you want the truck to ride like a car, buy a car!
I agree that it is very frustrating the way our trucks wilt with tongue weight. At least y'all have a way to deal with it. When I got my '11 I had to wait until the aftermarket stuff was released, about 6 months of dragging my but.
On the other hand, everything is better about the trucks other than the rear leafs. There's thousands of OTR drivers in their newer kenworths/peterbuilts/volvos/etc who are loving the auto/manual trannys though, even the big trucks are getting "soft".
