So ive figured out that my CEL has to do with the air filter. Its got about 6000miles on it and its not in bad shape but its causing me to get a check engine light for air intake restriction.
Anybody have any sugestions for a good aftermarket that flows well? I know k&N is out there but looking for others.
This generation of Ford Air Filters seems to work pretty well. With the many pleats you have a huge surface area for air to pass thru. It is pretty cheap compared to past Ford air filters.
I have heard there a massive improvement over the 6.4's.. Truck is complaining tho and everyone i talk too with access to the codes database say 99% of the time its clogged filter or the engine wants more air because its pulling too much vaccum in the airbox.
Dont have the money at this time to get a high flow intake so im just trying to help where i can for the time being.
I was looking into an air intake when I first got the truck, but after researching it dosen't seem to do much to justify the price. So I am keeping it stock. I am thinking you just mean just to replace the filter and not the whole intake though. You must be in some very duty conditions to have it plug up that fast. On a side note my brother in law put an intake on his f150 and to clear the CEL and keep it cleared, he had to purchase an edge programer.
Yea, from what ive read HP wise it doesnt add much. Adds some torque though but thats not the goal. I have a dashdaq that i checked codes and cleared it with. If i drive it normal everything is fine. As soon as i do a WOT run the light comes back on and the sensor under the hood for the filter shows dirty when it is almost like new.
Also reading the numbers coming from the sensor it goes quite a little bit outside of its "operating paramiters"
I would look into a faulty air sensor. If you filter was that dirty the indicator would tell you something and you would pull it out of the airbox and probably shat yourself.
Im just gonna give up on trying to get an opinion on a filter here. The sensor is fine. The electronic filter and the manual old school colored thing on the filter box both say the same thing. Not enough airflow.
For some reason i feel like we have 6.4 people in the wrong forum again...
Normal conditions. All city so not much driving around dirt and such other than the normal city pollen. Ill get it pulled apart later today or tomorow for a picture. But I changed the filter at my 22500 oil change. Both of them. Now i got right under 31k miles.

Not sure why you are having problems. H&S tuned and straight piped I ran the stock intake for a while with no issues. I didn't notice any change other than sound with the aFe intake. I only put it on to try and stop the snow packing issue with the stock intake....otherwise I was fine with the stock intake / filter.
I just ordered the AFE Pro Guard 7 from Xtreme Diesel Power (XDP). If you use code coupon Diesel10 you get 10% off and right now they have free shipping over $50. Best deal I found after looking around today.
