Hey guys
First off I'd like thank everyone for helping answer the questions I have. This next one is about air intake kits.
I looked under the hood and it seems like the stock air intake pretty seems to pull air from the front of the engine compartment. Is a full new air intake kit really better when compaired to just replacing the stock air filter with a high flow filter? And what brand of air filters or air intake kits would you recommend?
I Love My Afe Stage 2 With A Pro Fuard 7 Filter But You Will Get Many Opinions On This One Alot Of Guys Tay That The Stock Filter Is Awesome But For Me If It Is New In Performance I Must Have It Good Luck With Your Decision
The stock filter can only flow "X" and then it hist a wall as far as CFM goes. Plus I replaced my 1st one at 8000 miles and got 2-3 PSI increase in boost pressure, which told me that running it to 30,000 miles liek Ford reccomends is waaaaaaay to long. The stock filter filters out dirt veyr well, but it's restrictive. The AFE Pro Guard 7 filters to 1/2 of 1% of the best paper filters out there as far as stopping dirt so it flows a lot of air but stops the dirt at the same time. If you have any questions just call.
When I purchased my 2005 f250 cc power stroke . I called K&N to see if they had an air filter or intake system for my truck. The guy told me that Ford had done an awsome job on their filter and that K&N would ony make one if they could make one better than stock as of yet I don't think that they have made one.
Unless you're doing some VERY serious mods and running extremely high RPM's then leave the stocker in place. Donaldson has been making turbo engine filters for a long long time and they KNOW what they're doing. If you wanna "improve" the stocker then the easiest thing you can do is the zoodad mod--THAT will get you some colder air.......I know some hotrod dieselers that run the stock filter box with NO problems, and I mean some guys running WAY extreme tunes. Spend your money if you want, but if you do the math you can buy lots of new factory filters and replace it way earlier than the "recommended" interval for what you'll pay for a "cold air kit". just my .000002.
I have to agree with Mark. I noticed the same gains with my 05 with the AiRaid intake. I havent priced them lately, but the big decider for me was the stock replacement element was like 90 bucks.
I guess this would confirm K&Ns point of view. LINK!

I'm using the Volant system. They use Proguard 7 filters in their kits. Nice kit fits like stock and pulls air from in front of the core support and between the grill and hood gap.
