Hey, what does the end of a stock air intake look like, wherethe air filter is? Does it continue all the way onto the driver side panel? I just noticed my stock intake was cut, when I was reoiling the my K&N. It looks like it is cut flush at the end of the air filter. Prevoius owner had a K&N, judging by the K&N warning label stuck to it. Also, Would it be better to continue the cut more to where all of the Filter is showing or just leave it the way it is?
yeah dude im almost sure that it connects to the driver side wall of the engine bay, but im not totally for sure on that. Are you saying that it is cut to expose the filter? The filter should be completely containted and covered. You could cut it a bit more, for more airflow, as long as you don't disturb the filter's seal at the seat of it, otherwise you are defeating the purpose of an air filter.
If you look at my gallery, you will see that I drilled holes in mine to improve airflow. I eventually ended up cutting that whole section out, and have had no problem. The cold air intakes from air raid, mac, etc. have exposed filter's I think.
Travlnman or anyone else who will respond-Will that hurt anything when you cut or drill holes into the right side of the stock air system?? If anything your filter would probably just get dirtier faster right? And, where does the air that gets sent through the filter come from in the first place?
homer, thats what i said dude! i just worded it weird. it'll come from the fenderwell, or the otherside of THE driverside panel (which is i think a section between the driverside panel and the wheelwell.)
anyhow, black, you have no problems dude.
If you are in doubt, pic up the MAC intake. i got mine new on eBay for about 140 or 150 shipped.
when i drive like a grandma i get just about 18 mpg, or just above/over 400 miles on 21.5 gallons. Through one tank, i gun it a few times, and sometimes i drive around at 20mph in first and let off the gas, so that it gets real loud and poppy, just to be a jerk. I didn't start getting mileage like that until after i put in my intake.
Before that, i got about 14-16mpg, but I also drove like a bat out of hell, lunatic on wheels, banshee after a soul, diahrea on the open road.
After putting on my flowmaster, i noticed little improvement. I'd say the intake totally made a difference. If you are hesitating getting one, figure it'll pay for itself in gas after a couple months, you do the math.
Yea I've always thought about it payin itself off. I think I'm gonna get one come soon, maybe this week. When you get the MAC intake u get a filter and everything right?
